Do you need to export a Canadian aircraft? It’s no problem! The CAAA works diligently with our network of partners to ensure a seamless export process.

How Do I Begin The Process of Exporting My Aircraft?

First, remove all Canadian nationality and registration marks from your aircraft.
If applicable, remove the aircraft mark plate.
Remove the aircraft Mode ‘S’ Transponder address code, and apply for an Export Airworthiness Certificate (if applicable).
Submit a written request to Transport Canada and Civil Aviation to de-register your aircraft.
Provide supporting documentation specific to your aircraft with your written request.

Export Airworthiness Certificate

Should the buyer of your aircraft require an Export Airworthiness Certificate, you may be required to contact a Maintenance and Manufacturing office within the appropriate Transport Canada and Civil Aviation office to comply with foreign civil aviation authority requirements.

How Do I De-Register My Aircraft?

During the de-registration process, you are required to include the document transferring ownership to a foreign buyer (ie. bill of sale).
Indicate which foreign aviation authority needs to be advised of the removal from the register (ie. the country of the foreign buyer).
You must return the last Canadian Certificate of Registration and include a statement confirming that the Canadian nationality of registration marks have been removed (if applicable).
You must provide your request in writing with attachments to the appropriate Transport Canada and Civil Aviation office.

Will I Receive a Document?

No, you will not receive a document. Transport Canada and Civil Aviation will notify the aviation authority of the country in which the aircraft is being exported of the de-registration of the aircraft.

Is There a Fee?

No, there are no fees associated with the de-registration of an aircraft. However, there are fees for an Export Airworthiness Certificate.
